I am Nawa Tamang, known to all as “Dorje”. I am from the village of Pattale in the Solukhumbu, the lower Everest region in the foothills of eastern Nepal. I was born in the nearby village of Salyan and grew up in this region with my farmer parents, my two elder brothers and my sister. I now have a family of my own with two teenage sons.
After high schoolI moved to Kathmandu for further studies. Over two years I completed my diploma course in Commerce and Business Management,(including travel tourism and hotel management). While studyingItook seasonal work as a trekking porter to pay for my fees, rent and living expenses. Carrying 50kg loads over four trekking seasons was seriously hard work!
After college I concentrated on improving my spoken English while developing a career as a trekking guide. Since 2004 I have been certified by the Nepal Government as a fully qualified guide. In that capacity, and for the past twenty years, I have led hundreds of international guests to the Everest, Annapurna, Manaslu and Langtang regionsand other places of interest.
I have made some good friends amongst international visitors on these treks, some of whom have kindly sponsored me for visits to their countries to broaden my experience and help me developbetter English language skills. These include the United States, Alaska, Australia, United Kingdom, Thailand and Hong Kong.I also speak Hindi, some German and a number of local languages includingTibetan and Sherpa.
My trekking experiences, and some of my trekking friends, have inspiredme to help improve the lives of my people. In 2010, together with an Australian group, I established the Pattale Community Health Centre in order to improve access to health carein my village.
After 10 years when conditions improved, the remaining resourcesassisted the Australian Himalayan Foundation to build a new hospital in Waku, also in the Solukhumbu.I am a member of the Lions Club of Kathmandu. This group concentrates on developing projects aimed at assisting our people in remote villages. I have also developed experience in helping people in emergency situations including the recent earthquake. The pictures I post here tell the story.
It is with this background that I have established WIN Himalaya and I look forward to welcoming you to Nepal.
Thank you.

I was born in Trieste, Italy, in 1968, a member of the CAI since 1987 caver and mountaineer, and active in the nineties of the fvg cave rescue. After many years spent in valleys, gorges and on rock faces, in 1993 I arrived in Nepal where I met a large and beautiful Tamang family with whom I established a lasting strong friendship. From here began many trekking trips throughout Nepal, especially in their Juke country, the Solukhumbu and the Everest area. So I know Nawa Tamang (Dorje) well. He has over many the years developed broad experiences as a guide, so much so that he has recently founded his own company. In the past I organized some treks in the Himalayas from Italy with Nawa and his family.
Now out of respect and friendship for Nawa and my dear Nepalese friends I will act as a contact for Italian and non-Italian hikers wishing to go to Nepal , and support his registered company. I have travelled with Nawa and his relatives on numerous trails over many years, climbed the 6189m Island Peak, and traversed areas off the beaten track. Thanks to Nawa and his brothers I was able to have their indispensable and solid support to take my young 3 year old son to the Namche Bazaar area and beyond; and later, a trek to the Annapurna with both children aged 10 and 6. My story with Nawa and Tamang friends we then wrote as a story in the book: "The dark in the sack”, July publisher, Trieste.
